03.Sep.2009 I want my stuff for free! How to find and steal online crap.

So there’s a lot of information piracy on the internet these days.  Torrents, warez sites, P2P networks… where does it all end?  Well not here, folks.  We have a little trick we’d like to share with you to save you some cash online.

Want that game download, but don’t want to fork out the dinero for it?  Want to get that EBook on how to make six figures a month without opening your wallet?  Don’t worry.  We got your back in the first weekly installment of “I Want My Stuff For Free!”

There’s no denying Google is a search engine super powerhouse.  In fact sometimes it searches far beyond what you an I can imagine.  This little trick relies on two key requirements that must be fulfilled in order for this to work.  First, Google’s SkyNet computer army has to search the search the site’s content during a process called a “crawl”.  This occurs at any time, from a daily crawl to a weekly crawl.  It’s just a matter of when the Google computers surf to the site.  The second, and most important requirement, is that the site’s owner is a complete retard when it comes to how to set up a Google sitemap.  A sitemap is a kind of like a roadmap of your site that Google uses to index the pages it searches.  Most webmasters know how to add or remove certain content from the sitemap, so it’s not available to whole world through a search engine query.  But because everything and everyone is on the internet now, most webmasters are regular old Joe Shmo’s.  Guys and gals who’s company decided they could run a website because they know how to fix a computer problem by rebooting it.  They read a couple how-to FAQ’s and they throw up a site with all the company’s important information freely available to everyone with the knowhow of how to find it.

GoogleTrick00002      So here’s the trick…  Google will allow you to search a specific site’s indexed pages using the search format site:TheSiteNameWhat Your looking for”.  For instance, if we wanted to find all the flash videos on YouTube we would type the following search query:

                 site:YouTube.com “.flv”

Google would return every page or file that it has crawled in the past that has that has that “.flv” file extension in its name or contents.

Ok so this doesn’t do you any good.  Honestly though, everyone can find a YouTube video right?  Right.  So how does this help you?  Here’s how:

GoogleTrick00001      Sites that are completely indexed by Google’s search computers will have every file and page available to find.  So if they use a standard thank you page for a purchased file download or a member section page, and they haven’t blocked them from Google, you can find it through a search.  In the example to the left, we search for a coupon page that is offered by the website shown in the search box.  This company offers amazing discounts for attractions in the NYC area.  However, the company only gives it’s discount information out to companies who sign up for the service and are approved.  Our search found their discount document right away.  Obviously they don’t know how to secure their site properly.

This trick can find anything on a website if the content isn’t blocked in the sitemap.  The possibilities are only limited by your imagination and the time you put into searching.  The best way to find what you want is by searching for common phrases like ‘thank you for your purchase’, or ‘your credit card will be charged’.  In addition, common file extensions like .EXE, .RAR, .MPG, .PDF, .DOC, and .JPG will turn up tons of files you normally wouldn’t find for free on certain websites.  It really just comes down to a little bit of luck when picking the right search terms, but the crap is there for the taking most of the time.  We know we aren’t handing you a golden egg here, but we are telling you where to find the goose.
